Commentaire | | | After spending his youth in Worcester, Barribal moved to London with his family where he eventually found work as an apprentice in a lithography shop. After spending a year at the Academy Julien in Paris he returned to London and began his career as a painter and illustrator. Barribal’s work appeared on postcards, playing cards, calendars and posters largely for the London North East Railway between the two world wars. He also illustrated covers for magazines such as Vogue. He modeled his glamour images after his wife, who became known as the Barribal Girl. His later work was more experimental but it was not as popular, and he retired from commercial art around 1938. (http://www.metropostcard.com/artistsb.html) |
